Protein Disulfide Isomerase (PDI) is a multifunctional enzyme that plays a crucial role in the folding and quality control of proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) of eukaryotic cells. Specifically, PDI catalyzes the formation and rearrangement of disulfide bonds between cysteine residues in newly synthesized proteins, which is essential for the proper folding and stability of many proteins. The enzyme also acts as a chaperone to prevent the aggregation of misfolded or unfolded proteins and helps to target these proteins for degradation. Additionally, PDI can interact with other ER-resident proteins, such as lectins and glucosidases, to regulate their activity and promote proper protein folding. PDI has been implicated in numerous physiological and pathological processes, including blood coagulation, immune response, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer. Thus, measurement of PDI activity is critical for developing therapies for a wide range of diseases. The PDI assay kit is an improved version of the insulin-based turbidimetric assay and can be used for screening PDI inhibitors.
